Owls and more owls

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, it has been a busy few weeks. Naomi has been elected Fairy Queen for the village carnival, so I've had dresses, flowers, a float and goodness knows what else to think about, and I mark exam papers at this time of year anyway, so I haven't been at either the computer or my stitching anywhere near as much as I would have liked.

I do have a couple of small finishes though. Here are my little lace owls. I'm quite pleased with how they have turned out.


Speaking of owls, one of the things we gave Eloise for her birthday was a pair of devices called a Knitwit and a Doodleloom. One of them makes pompoms, the other makes kind of flower shaped rosettes (I can't for the life of me remember which is which), and the other day she figured out how to make these little pompom owls. This is the brood so far, excluding ones she has given away. I suspect they may be breeding! I also keep getting the feeling they are watching me and keep thinking of "The Owl Service" by Alan Garner. So, adorable or slightly creepy? What's the verdict?

Too funny!

So, Eloise unwrapped her presents, and the pillow came out of the package upside down. She sat staring at it for a minute and then said "What does it say? I can't read it"
So I turned it the right way up and she went "Oh". LOL! I think she felt pretty silly ;) The good news is she really likes it now she can read it.

My Baby is growing up!

Yes, my elder daughter will be a teenager on Sunday. Oh dear, now I feel old! Anyway I have made this for her, I hope she likes it.

The original design read "Love", so it was an easy matter to come up with an I and an S and change it around to read Eloise. Might be a bit harder if Naomi decides she wants one ;)

Spring has Sprung.....

......so here is Spring finish to celebrate. I finished this little pillow this afternoon.

The design is a complimentary one from Catherine's blog - http://cyberphenicia.over-blog.com/ - and I just couldn't resist Monsieur Lapin. Isn't he gorgeous? I changed the colours a little to match the piece of fabric.

The message reads "Il faut cultiver son jardin", which, I think, translates as something like "it is necessary to work at one's garden", though my French leaves a lot to be desired.

It is a glorious day here, some of the girls' chocolate eggs actually started to melt in the garden while they were doing their egg hunt! The plan for today is gardening (I got a tray of petunia plug plants last week that need putting into pots and baskets), a trip to the beach, and maybe some stitching later.

PS what do you think of my Bunny Bucket? I bought him from the florist in the village, and declined a bag, thinking I could carry him home by his handle, and NOT thinking what an absolute idiot I'd look walking up the road carrying a Bunny Bucket at my age! Shan't be doing that again any time soon ;)

Lace update

As promised, here is a picture of my first attempts at lacemaking.

Lesson 1 was the square piece to the right hand side of the picture, and Lesson 2 is the unfinished circular piece.

I don't know which is more addictive, making the lace, or shopping for bobbins!

I particularly like the little froggy one, too cute!

Something New

Today I had my first bobbin lace making lesson.
Wow! I think I've found something else I can get hooked on, after all I badly NEED another hobby ;D
